The rare Melipona bee
It all began with a wonderful treasure of nature that we found some years ago on our Sierradentro farm – beehives! We preserved the bees’ habitat and now maintain them as a key ecological component of our land.
And this is their story
Strategic Discovery: While surveying the Sierradentro farmland in Córdoba for optimal teak planting, we discovered natural hives of the rare and stingless Melipona bee.
Local Significance: We soon learned this unique species produces a highly sought-after honey, credited locally for its numerous medicinal and health benefits.
Commitment to Conservation: In line with our strict approach to biodiversity, we immediately committed to preserving the hives and ensuring the bees remained a permanent part of the ecosystem.
Expert Integration: We partnered with a local apiculture expert to safely adapt the beehives to the plantation environment, maintaining the ecological integrity of the land.
Symbiotic Growth: This initiative allows our teak plantations and the Melipona bees to flourish together, proving that industrial efficiency and natural preservation can coexist.
The highest quality honey
Today, our teak plants and our bees are flourishing side-by-side. Under the expert care of our trained beekeeper, the Melipona bees are tended to with the highest welfare standards to ensure their well-being. Honey production is now a reality, and we are proud to say that we currently host 27 thriving hives of different bee species on the Sierradentro farm!
